Presenting the work of Indiana based artist Sayaka Kajita Ganz, using reclaimed materials Sayaka has created a collection of sculptures that breathe new life into objects rejected by people, She says her inspiration comes from the fact that she was disconnected from the place that she was born and wanted to create something that gave her a sense of identity and belong. her goal is for each object to transcend its origins by being integrated into an animal form that seems alive. There’s always a trend between accessories manufacturers and designer to sway between something over-the-top with every bel and whistle imaginable and something understated yet cool, and its often the minimalist ones that stand the test of time, but this watch concept takes to a completely different level, called the Aurora Watch Concept it features a faceless dial, red and blue lasers are activated when the user taps the bezel displaying the hours and minutes. With a name that literally means ‘sound of the earth’ Chilean Designer Pablo Ocqueteau creates speakers the old fashioned way using a potters wheel, the pots are then baked and fitted out with the required electronics, the idea behind the project was to rescue a sense of local identity and tradition whilst still being in touch with modern electronics, I have to say on a personal note when i was a kid we used to have subwoofers that were made out of pots that my dad made himself and the sounds that came out was absolutely amazing, lets just say that he wasn’t amazed when i tipped one over by accident!
