Galeria Mário Sequeira

Designed to blend into the landscape rather than being an imposing structure the Galeria Mário Sequeira was designed by Portuguese studio Carvalho Araújo. This contemporary art gallery preserves the principles and identity of the existing site by being partially submerged into the ground. But that doesnt mean that the submerged half is immersed in darkness. Natural light is used effectively to create a sense of space and provide illumination down below. Some great architectural lessons to be learnt over here.
